Dunmore Cave is situated in Ballyfoyle, County Kilkenny just 10km from Kilkenny City and just under 30 minutes’ drive from us here at the Abbeyleix Manor Hotel.
Dunmore Cave is a series of limestone chambers formed over millions of years. It contains some of the most impressive calcite formations found in any Irish underground structure. A blend of history and geology gives you a fascinating learning experience of Ireland’s finest calcite cave formations.
Dunmore is now a show cave, with guided tours available that are enjoyable and insightful and that will take you deep into the earth and even deeper into the past. Any enjoyable experience for all. A visit to Dunmore Cave will entail 700 steps. While children are always welcome at Dunmore Cave it may not be suitable for very very young children. Visitors are advised to wear suitable footwear due to uneven terrain and warm clothes.
During your visit why not take a break from your exploring at Madeleine’s Tea Room which is open daily during the peak season and enjoy a hot drink and some delicious, sweet treats.
When your visit to Dunmore Cave has ended why not visit nearby Jenkinstown Forest Park where you can enjoy an easy trail walk, say hello to the beautiful the deer or relax and enjoy a picnic, located just 10 minutes away.
Opening Times
Dunmore Cave is open all throughout the year but opening times vary according to the season.
March – May, September and October – 9.30am to 5pm
June July and August – 9.30am to 6pm
November – February – Wednesday to Sunday Only, 9.30am to 5pm.
