Donaghmore Famine Workhouse Museum is a unique place in County Laois which aims to tell the story of the families who lived and died within the famine workhouse walls before, during and after the Great Famine.
The museum uses guided and self-guided tours, combined with various exhibits, to explain the socio-economic conditions which led to the establishment of this and other workhouses A fine collection of agricultural, household, tools and equipment of 50 years ago have been gathered and are on display for people’s enjoyment. Many people remember growing up with these tools and implements in their younger days and enjoy showing them to younger family members during their visit. On visiting Donaghmore Famine House you will also see the authentically restored original dormitories, a kitchen and a waiting hall.

Donaghmore Famine House Museum is currently open Monday to Friday each week from 11am to 5pm. (Except Public Holidays)
